Range Safety Officers will have an opportunity to help keep our Three Rivers shooting range open more hours during summer months and improve safety on the range. With our working partnership with Lake Chinook Fire and Rescue we believe having trained range safety officers in place during periods of high fire conditions that check ammunition and ensure shooters fire at targets with dirt backstops will allow range use during summer months. Humidity is the concern and RSO will check with the fire department daily and based on conditions we may have to limit shooting at 12 noon or close certain days based on low humidity levels, high winds or Red Flag Warnings. FIRE SAFETY is everyone’s priority.
We currently have over 15 active Range Safety Officers in place but we need more trained resources. The good news is we get to shoot while we work. On May 18th there will be a class held from 8 am to 6 pm that will certify new people to help in this effort. There is a cost of $20.00 to cover training materials that is yours to keep. Training is held at Jeff McBride’s home on Airport loop. The class hours are 8 am to 6 pm. Please register your spot to assure training materials will be available.
